i've finally finished my last project before baby. i've been wanting to turn a dresser into a tv stand for sometime now but i just couldn't find the right dresser or one for the right price. i was able to sell my old entertainment center and purchased this dresser off a FB bargain site for half the price of what I made on my old one {score}. I have to say i was a bit disappointed when i went to pick the dresser up and found out the top wasn't solid wood as described! typically, i would have said no thank you and walked away but in this case we had to drive to Bradley and borrowed a van to pick it up. so, i decided to take it and figure something out. the dresser came with six drawers and i wanted only four so with my wonderful husbands assistance, we came up with a solution to replace the two top drawers with a shelf and left it open.

i decided to paint the stand the same color as my hutch and was able to reuse the paint i had on hand, off white from Olympia. for the top, i wanted something darker. i went with a blackish/brown paint from Valsper (i cant remember the name) which i was able to purchase a sample can for $2.98. I did poly the top and shelving for protection, again, i had that on hand. i really wanted to keep the hardware since it was unique and free so i purchased a can of satin nickel spray paint by Krylon for $3.47, worked like a charm! as for my worries about the top not being solid wood, the paint took with no issues. PHEW...
all set up:
total spent $73. this makes me one happy girl!
This looks great!
