dresser re-do

for the past 6 months i've been looking for a dresser for isabella since the little one we have will become sophia's. thank god for friends who have access to the local dump! i can't believe the gems people throw out. i'm so excited about this project. this will last little miss bella a long time. unfortunately, i forgot to take a before picture but i'll explain.

supplies:

sander
sand paper
primer
2 in 1 paint semi gloss white
frog tape
foam roller
polyurethane
valve mask (for those who are pregnant)

since i'm pregnant i didn't want to take the chances of sanding anything so, i ask my amazing, strong husband to do it :) thanks babe. after i took a rag with some soap to wash down any dust before painting. then let dry before any painting begins.

thankfully i had some primer left from one of my previous project (good primer isn't cheap). i used valsper primer for all surface types. this has a kilz blocker in it to reduce any smell from previous owners. the dresser was light wood which made my life so much easier which meant i only had to apply one coat. note: if your re doing a dresser with darker wood, you will need to apply two coats. this primer is great and dries super fast! with my last dresser re do i used a paint brush which took soooo long but my amazing husband suggested a foam roller. i was able to purchase a 5 pc pack at the, wait for it, dollar store. this comes with two rollers. score!

after the primer dries completely, apply your choice of paint color. i chose to go with white. i purchased glidden 2 in 1 prime and paint from walmart. love this! worked great and dries fast! again, i only had to apply one coat. this was one of the easiest projects i've done. having the right tools helps.

i was able to use the same white paint for sophia's room which saved us an extra $25.

i decided to add a design to the front of the dresser. i purchased a moroccan stencil from ac moore for $6.00 which i can later use for other projects. i also decided to use the same yellow paint from sophia's room to stencil. it was by glidden, called eastern colonial yellow in satin. again, i was able to use the foam roller to apply. this took patience for sure.

for extra protection i decided to coat the top of the dresser with polyurethane (which i had on hand). this will help protect the surface from scratches. i used the other foam roller which happened to bubble as i was rolling but i took a dry brush to smooth it out. perfect!

i'm so pleased with my finished project and can't wait to start her bed redo!
